Ash from Incinerators is Toxic. “Studies from Rutgers University have shown that each ton of incinerator ash contains approximately 5.9 pounds of lead, 0.12 pounds of cadmium, 0.096 pounds of chromium, and 0.12 pounds of arsenic” ( Environmental Research Foundation, 1990. Retrieved from http://www.rachel. org/en/node/4293). CRRA is proposing 300,000 tons of ash a year for 30 years. To find out more goggle: incinerator ash.
The proposed Ash dump site is on top of an Aquifer and next to the Shetucket River. Testimony between Senator Edith Prague and Director of Environmental Affairs and Development for CRRA, Peter Egan: “Has there ever been a problem with the lining in other ash landfills that you are aware of? Has the lining in any of them ever leaked?” (Sen. Edith Prague 4/24/08). “Yes, in fact, the DEP regulations provide for leakage and allow some leakage”. (Peter Egan 4/24/08).
